The following list is from How to Really Parent Your Child, by Ross Campbell. I read this book with my own son in mind, but it’s certainly something that can apply to our role as teachers, as well.
Very thought provoking and challenging…
Truths about parenting
1. Our children are, after all, children.
2. Therefore, they will tend to be childish.
3. Childishness annoys us, their parents.
4. Our love helps them move beyond childishness to maturity.
5. Legalistic love will create insecurity, low self-esteem, and prolonged immaturity.
6. Therefore, I accept coresponsibility for their behavior and growth.
7. Gracious love is an investment toward gracious, loving children.
